How often per week should you clean the toilet?

For optimal hygiene and freshness, we recommend cleaning your toilet thoroughly at least once a week with a suitable cleaning product. HG offers a range of effective solutions for regular maintenance, removing stubborn limescale and urine stains, and daily quick cleaning. You can also use household items such as baking soda, lemon juice and carbonated soft drinks, although these are not always equally effective. Solutions for cleaning the toilet

In addition to professional cleaning products, you can also use some household solutions for cleaning your toilet. However, be aware that these methods are not always equally effective and may carry certain risks. Here are some suggestions:

  • Use a mixture of white vinegar and water to clean the toilet and neutralise odours. Pour the mixture into the toilet bowl and let it work for a few hours before flushing.
  • Make a paste of lemon juice and baking soda to remove stubborn stains. Apply the paste to the stains, let it sit for a while and scrub with a toilet brush.
  • Pour carbonated soft drink such as cola into the toilet bowl and leave it for a couple of hours. The acid in the drink can help remove deposits and stains. Then flush thoroughly.

Whilst these solutions can work, we recommend cleaning the toilet thoroughly at least once a week with a suitable cleaning product for the best result and to maintain optimal hygiene.

Causes of a dirty toilet and how to prevent it

There are various reasons why your toilet can become dirty and regular cleaning is necessary:

  • Frequent use: The more the toilet is used, the quicker it becomes dirty.
  • Stubborn stains: Urine, faeces and hard water can cause stains that are difficult to remove.
  • Poor ventilation: A toilet with insufficient ventilation can lead to moisture build-up and unpleasant odours.

To prevent these problems and keep your toilet clean, we recommend the following steps: Make it a habit to clean the toilet thoroughly at least once a week. Use suitable cleaning products such as HG products that both remove stains and clean hygienically. Ventilate the room well by opening a window or using a fan. Always flush and wipe away any splashes immediately to prevent staining. Consider using a toilet cleaner that works actively with each flush for a consistently fresh scent.
