How to clean a mirror without streaks?

Cleaning a mirror without leaving streaks can be a challenge, but with the right approach and products it is perfectly achievable. HG offers effective solutions that remove grease and dirt quickly, leaving a clean, streak-free finish. Household remedies can also be used, but they are not always reliable and may not be suitable for all mirror surfaces. Always check the manufacturer's care instructions before cleaning.

HG solutions for cleaning mirrors without streaks

For best results, we recommend the following HG products:

  • HG glass and mirror cleaner: Suitable for all types of glass and mirrors. Spray lightly onto the surface, wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel, and optionally finish with a squeegee for a streak-free shine.
  • HG window cleaner concentrate: This concentrated formula is widely used by professional window cleaners. It is pH-neutral, gentle on hands and very economical. Dilute 40 ml in approximately 5 litres of lukewarm water for optimal performance.

Methods for streak-free mirror cleaning

If you prefer to use household solutions, you can try:

  • A mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water
  • Lemon juice diluted with water
  • Ethanol (alcohol) for degreasing
  • A paste of cornstarch and water for polishing

Whilst these methods can work, results can vary, and some may not be suitable for all mirror coatings. Always test first on a small area. For guaranteed good results, we recommend HG glass cleaners.

Causes of streaks when cleaning mirrors

Streaks often occur due to:

  • Using unsuitable or overly soapy cleaning products
  • Using dirty or lint-producing cloths
  • Not drying the surface properly
  • Hard water leaving mineral marks
  • Build-up of grease and dust over time

To avoid streaking, use a suitable HG cleaner and a clean, lint-free cloth. Regular cleaning will help maintain a clear, streak-free surface. With proper maintenance, your mirror will stay bright and streak-free for longer. Always check the mirror manufacturer's care instructions first before you start cleaning.
